# Word of Fact. AI only recommends what it can verify.

> Customers no longer ask only people they know; they also ask AI. And AI does not recommend whoever makes the best claims about themselves, but whoever has facts it can verify.

## Short answer: What is Word of Fact?

Word of Fact is the methodology I use to get brands into AI answers. It is based on one principle: AI only recommends what it can verify. A fact that appears only on your website is a claim to AI. When the same fact is confirmed on other websites, AI can verify it and has a reason to recommend you.

Word of mouth works because it is simple. The seller claims to have the best goods, advertising repeats the claim, and you still buy what your neighbour, colleague or brother-in-law recommends. Not because they know more than the seller. Because they have no reason to lie to you. Word of Fact is a way to bring this logic into a world where AI gives advice.

## Word of mouth works because people ask people

Behind word of mouth is one unspoken assumption that nobody puts in textbooks because it is obvious: a person asks another person. A brand earns a recommendation through an experience someone has and shares. Advertising can build awareness. A recommendation has to be earned.

## What has changed: customers also ask AI, not just people they know

A customer trying to solve a problem today describes it to ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode. They do not ask about your brand; they do not know it yet. They describe their situation and get one answer containing three to six brands and a few sentences explaining why those were chosen.

> **Fictional example**
>
> “I'm looking for kitchen units for a small flat. I want solid wood and installation directly from the manufacturer. I live near Trenčín.”
>
> The customer has not named a single brand. AI adds the brands to the answer itself.

They choose from those brands. Anyone absent from the answer does not exist for that customer at that moment. They are not second on a results page or one click away. They are simply not there. I have detailed how often AI tools mention a brand and how much this varies by tool in my [Share of Model](/en/articles/share-of-model/) analysis of the Slovak market.

AI has taken over the role of someone you know who offers advice. But AI is not your neighbour.

## AI does not repeat hearsay. It uses facts it can verify

Your neighbour gave advice based on experience. AI gives advice based on what it can verify. Before writing an answer, it searches for itself: it reads websites and compares what others write about a brand with what the brand writes about itself. Superlatives do not interest it. It cannot verify “the highest-quality kitchens in Slovakia”, so it does not use that claim.

“We manufacture kitchen units in Trenčín, and our own team handles installation” is something it can verify. It finds that sentence on your website, in a customer review, in an interview for a regional newspaper or in a manufacturers' directory, and it has a reason to recommend you to someone looking for exactly that. The example is fictional; the principle is not.

That is the whole difference between advertising and a recommendation, brought into the AI era. Advertising makes claims. A recommendation can be verified.

## Why the methodology is called Word of Fact

The name comes from “word of mouth”. People have always recommended what they heard from others, not what advertising claimed. Today, AI is increasingly taking on this role too. Customers ask it, not just people they know. But AI does not repeat hearsay and impressions; it uses facts it can verify in several places. And since it never meets anyone in person, its contacts are high-authority websites and, above all, content written by people themselves: discussions, reviews and ratings. These tell it whom people trust and whether they confirm the facts a company claims about itself. Hence Word of Fact.

The name also echoes “matter of fact”: something that is simply true and not up for debate. That is exactly what the facts about your brand should be like. The whole methodology can be summed up in two sentences:

> In the past, what people said would spread.
> Today, what AI can verify spreads.

## Claim and confirmation: the core of the Word of Fact methodology

Everything in the Word of Fact methodology follows from one distinction. A fact that appears only on your website is a claim to AI. It may be true, but AI has no way of knowing it is not just marketing. The same fact on another website, in a customer review, in an expert article, in a register or in a directory is confirmation.

> **Principle**
>
> **Claim + confirmation = a fact AI can verify.** AI only recommends what it can verify.

This means a brand must do three things:

- **Know which facts matter.** AI does not verify everything, only what customers in your field are trying to resolve.
- **Have these facts on its own website.** Written so AI can find and understand them.
- **Get them onto other websites.** In the same wording, on websites AI trusts.

The order matters. Most brands start at the end: they seek mentions and reviews without knowing which facts these should contain, while their own websites have slogans instead of facts. AI then has nothing to verify.

## Word of mouth and Word of Fact: the same principle, a different verifier

Recommendations have not fundamentally changed. What has changed is who gives them and on what basis.

| Comparison | Word of mouth | Word of Fact |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who recommends | Someone you know, a colleague, a neighbour | An AI assistant: ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode |
| What it is based on | What they have experienced and heard | Facts it can verify across several websites |
| What matters | Trust in the person | The same fact on your website and on other websites |
| What does not work | Advertising they do not trust | A claim it has nowhere to verify |
| How quickly it can change | Years of reputation-building | Months of systematic work with facts |
| How it is measured | It cannot be measured | The proportion of AI answers you appear in, before and after |

## What Word of Fact looks like in practice

The full process has more steps than fit into an article, and some of it is know-how I reserve for a consultation. In brief, though, it looks like this:

1. **How people search for you.** I find out how people in your field ask AI questions when they do not yet know you, and who ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode recommend today. You will see in black and white whether you are among them.
2. **The facts that matter.** From the way people search, I work out which facts about you AI must find and verify to have a reason to recommend you. Not all of them, just those that matter in your field.
3. **Facts on your website.** Each of these facts must be stated clearly on your website, where AI looks for it. Not as a slogan, but as a sentence that can be verified. You receive a specific brief. My team, your team or your agency carries it out.
4. **Independent confirmation.** I show you which other websites matter in your field and how to get confirmation of the facts on them in the same wording. The most valuable sources are reviews from real customers and places where you answer under your own name.
5. **Measurement before and after.** A few months later, I repeat the same measurement, with the same questions and the same tools. You see what has changed in AI answers and what to do next.

The first two steps follow one another, because without knowing how people search, you cannot know which facts matter. The third and fourth run in parallel. The fifth closes one cycle and starts the next, because both facts and AI answers change.

## What Word of Fact does not do or promise

Word of Fact does not guarantee that AI will recommend you. Nobody can guarantee that, because AI decides on the answer, not me and not you. It guarantees measurement and a plan: you will know where you stand, which facts are missing and where, and a few months later you will see what has changed.

It takes no shortcuts. No bought reviews, mentions planted in discussions under someone else's name, scripted comments or press releases distributed to a hundred websites. Not just on principle, but also because confirmation you pay for is not confirmation. It is another claim, just on a different website.

It does not promise speed. Changes to your own website show results sooner; confirmation from other websites takes months. That is why I measure before and after, not after a week.

## When Word of Fact does not yet make sense

### When there is nothing about you to verify

A brand that can only say it offers quality and reliability needs facts first, not a methodology. Most businesses have them; they simply do not talk about them: where they manufacture, who handles installation, what materials they use, how long they have been doing it and for how many customers.

### When your customers do not ask AI

In many fields, they already do, but there are also fields where personal connections, public procurement or long-term contracts determine the choice. The first step will show this: if AI does not recommend anyone in your field, there is no point fighting for a place in the answer.

### When the work is meant to stop at measurement

Measurement alone changes nothing. If there is no one to add the facts and get them onto other websites afterwards, whether my team, your team or your agency, the methodology will amount to a nice report.

## The first step for a brand that wants to start

The first step is a free consultation, 15 minutes online. It is not a sales call with a presentation. We look at what you claim about yourself and which of those claims AI can verify elsewhere, and I tell you whether Word of Fact makes sense in your field. If it does, we agree on measurement. If it does not, I will tell you that too.

Have your website address ready, two to three sentences about who you sell to, and the names of competitors a customer might consider instead of you.

## Your position in AI answers is taking shape right now

Word of mouth took years to build and could not be measured. Visibility in AI answers can be measured from day one and built over months, not years. But you need to start before customers grow used to the brands AI recommends to them today.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does Word of Fact mean?

The name comes from “word of mouth”. In the past, what people said would spread. Today, what AI can verify spreads. Word of Fact is a methodology that places facts about a brand where AI can verify them: on its own website and on other websites that confirm them.

### Is Word of Fact the same as SEO?

No, but it does not work against it. SEO helps search engines find you and gets people to click. Word of Fact helps AI recommend you in the answer a customer uses to choose. The technical foundation is shared: AI must be able to read your website. But what matters is different: not keywords, but facts AI can verify in several places.

### How long does it take for Word of Fact to show results?

Changes to your own website show results sooner; confirmation from other websites takes months. That is why I repeat the measurement after a few months, not a few weeks. No one can honestly promise a deadline by which AI will recommend you. What I can promise is measurement that shows what has changed.

### Do I need to rebuild my website for Word of Fact?

Usually not. The point is to state the facts that matter clearly on your website, as standalone sentences, where AI looks for them. This usually means adding and moving content, not building a new website. The exception is a website AI cannot read at all. That becomes clear right at the start.
